Srinagar: The incumbent PDP-BJP government has booked 20 persons under Public Safety Act during their rule in state so far. Out of these 20 persons, 2 are militants, 3 separatists, 3 stone-pelters. 7 Over Ground Workers and 5 are habitual criminals.
This was stated by senior Minister Abdul Rehman Veeray in response to a question raised by National Conference member Qaiser Jamsheed Lone in Legislative Council. The Minister said that from March 2015 till date PSA was slapped over 20 persons and the same was quashed or revoked on 17 persons. The Minister said that it is not the aim of government to slap PSA on anybody but sometimes situation compels us from doing this.
Recently, the Chief Minister Mufti Muhamamd Sayeed directed all the concerned authorities not to re-arrest anybody including separatist leaders after court releases them, the Minister said. He said since March this year during different clashes and protests, 41 civilians got injured and civilians lost their lives. Besides 484 police personnel and 43 forces personnel got injured.
The Minister added that since March till date 9 persons have also been detained under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
