SRINAGAR: Kashmir Universitys Markaz-i-Noor, Centre for Shaikh-ul-Alam Studies (CSAS) Monday organized a special function to mark the 577th annual Urs of Alamdar-i-Kashmir, Shaikh-ul-Aalam (RA).
The title of the function was: Yath Waave Haaley Tsong Kus Zaaley (Who can lit the lamp in this tempest).
On the occasion, eminent scholar, M Y Teng, delivered an extension lecture on Shaikh-ul-Aalam te Kasheer. The function was presided over by Prof M A Wani, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Kashmir.
Prof Bashar Bashir, Chairman Markaz-i-Noor, while welcoming the participants, spoke about the contributions of Shaikh-ul-Aalam (RA) in shaping the Kashmir society.
In his presidential address, Prof Wani appreciated CSAS for organizing the lecture on Shaikh-ul-Alam (RA).
In his address, Teng highlighted the fame and popularity of the revered saint, describing him as the personality who influenced every sphere of Kashmir society.
Shaikh-ul-Aalam (RA) was a great thinker, intellectual and social reformer, he said.
He stressed on the need for propagation and dissemination of the messages and teachings of Shaikh-ul-Aalam (RA) by translating his works in other languages.
The function was attended by writers and scholars of Kashmir including Prof Shad Ramzan, Prof G N Khaki, Prof Mehmood Ahmad Khan, Prof Mohammad Ashraf Shah, Dr Altaf Jahangir and Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Dr. Aziz Hajini, and others.
Two scholars Dr Nusrat Jan and Sameer Mohi-ud-Din who were first to complete their Ph.D and M.Phil respectively from Markaz-i-Noor were felicitated on the occasion. The proceedings of the function were conducted by Shahida Shabnum while Samiullah presented vote of thanks.
