Srinagar- Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) Saturday changed school timing in Kashmir division.
According to the official orders in this regard, the timing for school falling within Srinagar Municipal limits will be 9AM to 3PM while the educational institutes falling outside Municipal limits of Srinagar District and other areas of Kashmir Province shall remain open from 10Am to 4Pm.
DSEK said that the new school timing for both government and recognised private schools in the Kashmir Division, with effect from August 12.
Notably, in a bid to provide a respite to the school children amid the ongoing heat wave, the Directorate of the School in Kashmir and Jammu division had ordered a change in the school timings for all government and privately recognised schools up to higher secondary level. The new timing for the schools was fixed from 8 am to 1 pm for the school children while the teaching and the non-teaching staff have been directed to attend their duties till 2 pm.
Parents Demand Rollback
Following the orders of change in school timing in Kashmir, parents of school children Saturday urged the authorities to revoke the new orders in view of scorching temperatures.
Speaking to a local news agency KNO, parents urged the school education authorities and the divisional administration to re-consider the previous school timing.
On July 23, amid hot weather conditions, the School Education Department had ordered a change in school timing for all classes from 8Am to 1Pm in both rural and urban areas of Kashmir region.
“We want the government concerned authorities to restore the previous school timing keeping in view the persistent heatwave and ultimately the health of children,” said one of the parents.
She said that nothing was more important for her except for the wellbeing of her wards.
Meanwhile, another parent Feroz Ahmad said, “Previous timing of 8Am to 1Pm was good and feasible for every student to avoid the heat wave. However, the new timing will make them sick and dehydrated.”
“As of now, even a healthy and stable persons can’t handle the ongoing heat wave and the government is putting pressure on students to attend the classes during the scorching weather,” Another parent said.
Pertinently, on July-28, division administration of Kashmir had ordered suspension of class work for students upto primary level in both government and private schools on July-29 and 30.
However, on Saturday the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) changed school timing in the Kashmir division.
According to the official orders in this regard, the new timing for school falling within Srinagar Municipal limits will be 9Am to 3Pm while the educational institutes falling outside Municipal limits of Srinagar District and other areas of Kashmir Province shall remain open from 10Am to 4Pm. In the meantime, Director of School Education Kashmir was not available for his comments.
