Will take action if found guilty: SSP
BHADERWAH: A middle-aged nomad whose son was injured in a bear attack has accused a militant-turned-policeman of harassment demanding a huge sum of money as ransom while threatening him with life if he failed to produce the cash.
The nomad, Mohammad Hussain Bakerwal while narrating his ordeal said that the policeman, Constable Muzaffer Hussain who reportedly was a former militant and posted as In Charge Police Post, Basti, dragged him into his car while he was waiting for a bus to attend to his injured son-in-law under treatment at SDH Baderwah. I was waiting for a matador when the Constable showed up in his car, he said. He pushed me into the car, snatched my mobile and drove deep into the forest. At Nalthi, he stopped and demanded Rs 15,000 from me much to my surprise.
The Constable let me go with a life-threat that if I failed to produce the cash, hed subject me to dire consequences, Bakerwal said.
The Constable reportedly was an active militant before surrendering and has been inducted into the police force ever since. As militant, Muzaffer used to exhort money from the gullible and has been carrying on with the malpractice ever since, Bakerwal said.
SSP Doda, Zahid Naseem Manhas, when contacted has assured he will look into the matter and initiate an inquiry into the incident. If found guilty, stern action will be taken against the erring cop, the SSP was quoted as having said.
