JAMMU SEPTEMBER 30:- Excise sleuths conducted series of raids in Jammu province to check the menace of illicit distillation of liquor and illegal smuggling of liquor meant for sale in other States.
Raids were conducted in districts including Jammu, Rajouri, Kathua, Udhampur and Kishtwar. Twelve persons who were arrested in connection with illicit distillation of liquor have been booked under various provisions of J&K Excise Act, 1958. Five persons arrested in district Rajouri include Rattan Lal son of Jagat Ram resident of Agrati, Rajouri, Ragu Pal son of Panth Ram resident of Sunderbani, Devinder Singh son of Ishar Dass resident of Banja Bain, Robin Kumar son of Som Nath resident of Dhanma and Sadaqat Hussain son of Nizamdin resident of Jawhar Nagar, Rajouri.
In district Rajouri, 870 kg of lahan, 120 ltrs of illicit liquor and three working stills were destroyed on spot by the excise sleuths. Similar exercise was conducted in Udhampur district where two persons namely Rupa son of Shantu R/o Jakheer and Rita Devi daughter of Dina R/o Jakheer, Udhampur were arrested in connection with illicit distillation of liquor and 20 kg of lahan and two ltrs of illicit liquor was destroyed on spot. In Kishtwar district, two persons namely Rajinder Kumar son of ChuniLal, R/o Lawa, Sarthal and Des Raj son of Chuni R/o Bangadi, Sarthal were arrested and 30 kg of lahan and two ltrs of illicit liquor were destroyed. The Eradication and Enforcement Wing of Excise Department, Jammu also conducted various raids and arrested three persons namely Tosh devi wife of Joginder Lal resident of Tarachak, Geeta Devi wife of JatinderLal resident of Sikanderpura and Manjeet Kour wife of Avtar Singh resident of Rungal Putoli, Akhnoor, and 220 kg of Lahan and five liters of illicit liquor were destroyed. Also, in district Kathua more than 1500 kgs of lahan and 250 ltrs of illicit liquor were destroyed on spot.
