Srinagar- Four people were killed in a mysterious blast in the Sopore town in Baramulla district on Monday. The blast happened inside a scrap dealer’s shop at Sher Colony when some people were unloading scrap from a truck.
“Four people sustained critical injuries when a mysterious blast occurred in the Shair colony of Sopore town today afternoon. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital where doctors declared three of the injured brought dead. The 4th injured person was shifted to SKIMS hospital in Srinagar, but he succumbed to injuries on the way,” an official said.
Sopore SP Divya D confirmed the incident saying, “They were unloading the scrap when the blast happened… Unfortunately, four people died.”
The deceased have been identified as Nazir Ahmed, Azam and Adil Mushtaq. All the victims were reported to be Sher Bagh residents. Police said the ages of the deceased are between 20 to 45 years.
A team of forensic experts rushed to the site of the explosion with no immediate information available regarding its exact nature and cause. Police have taken up the investigation.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosion may have been caused by an unknown explosive device hidden within the scrap.
A case has been registered at Police Station Amargarh for further investigation.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sopore, Divya D, said the police are examining all possible angles to ascertain the cause of the explosion. She described the incident as unfortunate.
The explosion has left the entire area in shock, with a sense of grief and disbelief. Residents have been gathering at the homes of the deceased to offer condolences and support to the bereaved families.
