SRINAGAR: As Saudi authorities issue photos of the deceased to ascertain identities, the toll of Kashmiris in the horrific Mina stampede climbs up steadily, with five confirmed dead six days after the tragedy, which claimed hundreds of lives.
Hajj Committee of India Tuesday said that Indian Council General in Jeddah has so for confirmed the death of five pilgrims hailing from Kashmir Valley.
Though the officials at Hajj Committee had no word on missing Hajis, unofficially, sources said that death toll could go further up as some of the missing are feared dead.
A Mumbai based official from Hajj Committee of India said that till date as per information received from Consul General of India in Jeddah, the death of five Kashmiri pilgrims, including a woman has been ascertained and confirmed so far.
The official from Hajj Committee identified the deceased Kashmiri pilgrims as Muhammad Amin Bhat (JKR 2402-2) Merajuddin Ganai (JKF6955-2-0), Abdul Salam Dar (JKR-9416-2-0), Ghulam Muhammad Sargaro (JKR2532-2) and Sarah Begum (JKR2585-2).
The families of missing Hajis were meanwhile making frantic efforts on Tuesday to locate their loved ones. Neither the state government nor the Saudi embassy has been of any help, said
