SRINAGAR: Thousands of admirers of great Sufi saint Hazrat Mir Syed Ali al-Husaini Hamadani (RA) popularly known here as Shah-e-Hamdan thronged his Khanqah in old Srinagar city on Monday on the concluding day of six day long Urs.
The Urs is observed every year on this day to commemorate the arrival in Kashmir of Syed Ali bin Shahab-ud-Din Hussaini Hamadani (1314-1384) also known as Amir-e Kabir (the Great Commander) from Iran.
He was very influential in spreading Islam in Kashmir and has had a major hand in shaping the culture of the land and economic empowerement of the Kashmiri nation.
On Monday as usual thousands of devotees converged Khanqah Maula where they recited verses of Holy Quran followed by Awarad-eFatiha as taught by the Sufi saint.
Islamic scholars shed light on the life and achievements of Shah Hamdan and expressed hope that the teachings of great saint and benefactor of Kashmiris shall remain alive in all times to come.
The Urs of Shah Hamdhan was also observed with religious fervor at Khankah Faizpanah Tral, Jinab Sahab Soura, Aasar Sharif Kalashpora, Kabamarg and Khiram Sirhama in Anantnag, Dooru Seer Hamdan, Aham Sharif Bandipore, Budgam and Kupwara.
