Mysterious Killings
SOPORE: Police Thursday lobbed tear-smoke shells and charged the protesters with canes who resorted to stone-pelting amid pro-freedom slogans demanding thorough probe into the mysterious killing of three youth whose bodies were recovered on September 12 from an apple orchard at Dangarpora Pattan.
Two among the three slain youth, Amir Reshi and Naveed Ahmed were from Sopore town.
Eyewitnesses said that normal life was disrupted and shopkeepers downed their shutters after a group of youth assembled at Super Bazar, Sopore and staged a protest demonstration against the killing of three Hizbul Mujahideen militants. Besides raising pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the protesters, mostly youth, threw rocks at CRPF and police deployments.
In a bid to disperse the protesters government forces resorted to tear-gas shelling, however, the protesters continued to hurl stones on the government forces. The escalation in clashes forces shopkeepers to shut their business who had opened up their shops after two days strike in the town. The movement of transport was also affected due to outbreak of clashes.
A police official said that some miscreants tried to disrupt the peace in the town and resorted to heavy stone-pelting. Police exercised maximum restrain while dealing with these protesters. (CNS)
