Srinagar- In an incident which has sent shockwaves across Kashmir, a minor girl from north Kashmir’s Pattan was allegedly gang raped by three persons at a rented accommodation in Srinagar. According to the police, all three accused in this case have been arrested.
“They are in their early twenties, and all of them are unmarried,” a police official told Kashmir Observer.
The parents of the victim lodged a complaint at police station Pattan on Wednesday, stating that their minor daughter left her home on June 19 and had not returned.
Following the complaint, police initiated an investigation. Pattan police further said that they assembled a specialized team of officers to resolve the case. On June 20, they successfully located the girl and documented her statement.
In her testimony, the victim recounted that on June 19, while she was en route to attend to some work, she was accosted by three individuals who abducted her and transported her to Srinagar, where she was detained in a rented accommodation.
Following the statement of the victim, the Pattan police swung into action and arrested the three persons involved in the heinous crime. An FIR vide no 219 of 2024 under section 363, 376 POCSO Act was lodged at the police station Pattan.
“After launching a search operation, we recovered the girl’s body at around 9:30 a.m.at Pattan in the morning and by 11:30, all the accused in the case were arrested. Later, the medical formalities were carried out, which confirmed the gang rape of the victim. The statement of the girl has been recorded before the concerned magistrate,” the police said.
According to police, two of the three accused rapists work in Srinagar, while one lives in Pattan.
“We constituted a police team to nab the accused, and within two hours, we caught two of them in Srinagar and one in Pattan. They were caught by surprise,” the police official said.
Police further said that the girl has bruises on her left elbow and back. She also complained of a headache and stomach ache.
“We will send her to a child welfare center where she will have access to all necessary medical facilities. We have collected the evidence and will send it for investigation and after the reports everything will get clear. As of now, all the allegedly accused rapists are in Police custody.”
Providing the details of the horrific night, officials said, “They took the girl from Pattan to the accommodation in Srinagar at around 2:00 a.m. and committed the crime during the night. At sunrise, they left Srinagar, dropped one accused in Pattan and allegedly threw the victim by the roadside. The other two then returned to Srinagar for work. The vehicle used is an Innova Crysta, belonging to one of the accused.”
“We have found the girl’s belongings in the car, which has also been seized by the police.”
Police assured that the law will take its own course and perpetrators won’t be spared.
