Handwara, Sep 11, CNS: At least two Indian army personnel and two militants were killed in an encounter at Handwara in Kupwara district of North Kashmir, army said on Friday.
Defence sources said that the encounter broke out in Laribal village of Zachaldara in Handwara on Thursday night after government forces launched an operation.
A police official said that during the encounter two militants and two Indian army soldiers were killed. He identified the deceased army soldiers as Desh Pandey and Chitra Sahai. DIG North Kashmir, Gareeb Das added that two army soldiers were critically wounded during the gun fight who later on succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. He said that the search operation continues to flush out the remaining militants. A large quantity of arms, ammunition and other war like stores have been recovered including two AK-47 Rifles, two pistols and one UBGL with eight grenades. The identity of the killed militants is being ascertained, an Army official said.
Both the slain militanst whose identity could not be ascertained were laid to rest in Laribal martyrs graveyard amid protests and pro-freedom slogans.
