Srinagar: The family members of three persons who were killed in a staged encounter by army in 2010 have hailed the lifer to 6 soldiers including a Colonel by a Court today.
Talking to Srinagar-based news gathering agency GNS, the families of the slain persons said that they are happy that the justice have been finally delivered but added that they want local culprits should also be punished.
We are very much happy on the court decision of sentencing six soldiers to lifer. But apart from this, we also want that the local culprits should also be punished severely, said Muhammad Maqbool, who is the family member of one of the slain persons.
The family members said that they want the local culprits who lured their sons should be hanged to death. We will celebrate the day they are hanged, they said.
The brother of Shahzad Khan said: They were lured by three locals on the pretext of providing labour. Then on the second day, they were again taken but never returned and when we enquired from these locals, they scolded us.
Subsequently, we were compelled to hold sit-in protest and the then SP Altaf Khan assured us that he would resolve the issue and he started searches, adding that after a month long searches the officer finally traced them.
He expressed gratitude to the SP Altaf Khan and said that it was only due to his efforts that the truth came to fore. For more than a month, we met him many times and at last, he traced them (victims). He told us that they are at Machil, Shahzads brother said.
