Forest officials allegedly helping timber mafia
KOKERNAG: A contingent of the Forest Protection Force laid a naka at Mohripora Kandiwara on September 2 (Wednesday) and seized an approaching tractor, No: JK 03 7077, carrying illegal timber measuring 49.21 fts.
The driver reportedly gave the officials slip and managed to escape in the darkness. He has been identified as Zubair Ahmed Bhat S/o Gh Nabi Bhat of Kandiwara. He was accompanied by Mohd yousef Bhat S/o: Mohd Ramzan

Forest officials claimed that some unknown people came to the spot and took the driver along. It was pitch-dark and before we could initiate any action, they managed to take the driver along, a forest official said.
Sources close to Kashmir Observer however say that some forest officials themselves help the timber mafia to chop trees in the dead of the night and facilitate their movement throughout the forest.
Meanwhile, DFO Anantnag,Tawheed Deva, has attached the Forester and suspended the beat forest guards.
The DFO has initiated an inquiry into the incident.
