SRINAGAR: Account holders of Jammu and Kashmir Bank were aghast on Thursday after they found no cash available in scores of ATM booths in city centre Lal Chowk and its adjacent areas.
Reports said that till 12 noon on Thursday, the cash starved Automatic Teller Machines of Jammu and Kashmir Bank gave a tough time to the bank subscribers. All the ATMs in city centre Lal Chowk and its adjacent areas were empty. I was supposed to submit my wards fee in a private school. I visited all but 8 ATM booths and everywhere, the guards present on the booths informed me that private company responsible for filling ATMs with cash do not bother to fill the ATMs with cash before 12, Shabir Ahmed Latoo said.
Jammu and Kashmir Bank has assigned the task of filling ATMs with cash to a private company, but the said private company according to subscribers especially the ATM security guards work at its will and usually fill the ATMs with cash after 12 during the day as a result subscribers usually come out empty handed from the booths.
A top official of Jammu and Kahsmir Bank admitted negligence on part of the private company and said he will raise the issue with authorities.
