Poonch: Two persons including a minor girl were killed while two other persons were injured as windstorm and landslides wreaked havoc in parts of Mendhar and Surankote in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
According to GNS, massive windstorm amidst rain created havoc in Mendhar Tehsil of the district resulting in uprooting of trees and damage to maize crops. The windstorm also damaged rooftops of the residential houses.
Due to heavy winds, a tree fell on a residential house in Kasabalari area of the Mendhar resulting in on-spot death of a lady identified as Rihana. In another incident, a person namely Tasleem Akhtar was injured at Topa village in the after he came under a rooftop.
A minor girl student was killed and her brother was injured after a landslide hit Singlaia Marha village of Surankote. The girl was identified as 12 year old Rubiya Kounsar while her brother was identified as Muhammad Azhar. Locals said that the duo were on way to school when the landslide occurred in the area. Azhar is being treated at GMS Jammu.
Meanwhile, the Tehsildar Mankote has submitted a report for the ex-gratia in DC office Poonch for the woman killed in Kasabalari.
