Srinagar – Minister for higher Education Abdul Ghani Malik Thursday asserted that teachers should take their social responsibility role with all conviction and dedication saying that we must attract talented teachers to take up this role.
Malik was speaking at the valedictory event of two day national academic Workshop on identification of Areas of priority and branches of knowledge necessary for promoting school & college education in the Stateorganized by the faculty of education university of Kashmir.
Malik said that in the changing dynamics of the world we got to understand the change and be part of it also and this change desires that we should be well equipped with the latest information on curriculum while promoting college and school education, Minister said that besides attracting talent in the education department we must create conditions to attract private investment in school and higher education. He was all praise for University of Kashmir to hold such an important seminar where 15 parallel sessions were held and he assured that the recommendations from all the 15 groups during the two day workshop will be taken very seriously.
In his presidential address Vice chancellor Kashmir University of Kashmir Prof Talat informed the audience that KU is in the process of introducing credit based /choice based system which gives an opportunity to students to students to take benefit of what they are interested in . Saying that he has tried his best to improve the academic standards in the university and said improving research at the campus is amongst his priority. VC said that he is happy that workshop has painstakingly tried to identify areas of priority in School and Higher Education in the State, to identify Branches of knowledge necessary for promoting school and Higher Education in the State and suggested measures for bringing about qualitative improvement in teaching-learning process both at school & college level in the state. He assured Organiseres Prof Nighat Basu and Prof N A Nadeem that the recommendations of the two day workshop will be taken seriously and sent to the concerned quarters for implementation.
Registrar Kashmir University Prof Syed Fayaz informed the audience that decision to hold this seminar came in one the council meetings in which chancellor Kashmir University N N Vohra desired that Kashmir University should hold a workshop on this theme . Prof fayaz said that he is happy to see the outcome of the seminar.
Earlier Prof Nighat Basu talked about the achievements of her department and informed that to update and restructure the existing course of study at School and Higher Education level and to identify job oriented courses for Schools & higher Education institutions in the State will be among the objectives of the workshop. Termed the workshop a big success she said she is happy with the outcome.
Prof N A Nadeem who is the chief coordinator of workshop talked about how the what the schools curriculum and instructions should be like in higher education and the group will present their recommendation to the core committee yesterday. Prof Nadeem read out the recommendations compiled from the work from all 15 groups on various themes and said the recommendations of the groups are sure to beneifit the scheme of things in higher and school education.
The working groups deliberated during two days on the .assessment and Evaluation, Information & communication Technology (ICT)/Special Needs,Quality of Teacher Training and Professional Development, Innovations in Teaching-Learning, Life Long Learning/Extension/Outreach activities/ODL. In the school groups the themes discussed were Curriculum and Instruction, Assessment and Evaluation, vocationalisation of Courses, Early Childhood Care & Education, Universalisation of Elementary Education ,Secondary Education, ICT /Special Needs, Quality of Teacher Training and Professional Development and innovations in Teaching Learning.
