Kulgam: Fisheries Department Kulgam Tuesday conducted the stocking of Kousernag spring that according to the department is a suitable habitat for propagation of Trout Fisheries.
The stocking was carried out under the guidance of Joint Director Fisheries, Kashmir Division R.N Pandita along with Assistant Director Fisheries Kulgam Shabir Ahmad Shabir after traversing a tedious path of almost 30 Kms with the consignment of Trout seed (fingerlings) produced at Trout Fish Farm Tschancer Kulgam. The team also carried out the stocking in other stretches of the Stream notably at Koungwatan and Aharbal proper.
Talking to CNS, Joint Director R.N.Raina said that, Angling is already going on in the lower beats of the stream. The venture shall render the whole stream a promising and potential Trout stream for angling, a step towards Ecotourism, he said adding that further the spring shall serve a gene pool for sustainable development of the stream for Trout production in future.
