Mansbal – Despite the central government spending crores of rupees, Sainik School Mansbal, established three decades ago in Ganderbal district to give quality education, is deprived of the basic facilities envisaged in the program, alleged a group of parents.
They say that unusable bathrooms and toilets, damaged fencing, poor academic arrangement and lack of proper healthcare have rendered this beautiful school almost irrelevant thus, forcing parents to explore other options for the schooling of their children.
Pertinently, the Jammu & Kashmir Sainik School, Manasbal is an English medium residential school for boys aimed to provide public school education of a high standard. The school is run by J&K Sainik School Society and is affiliated to the central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi.
The concept of its establishment intends to have infrastructure and other facilities of the same standard as in the case of Sainik Schools across the country.
However, call it an irony the school according to parents is run down and provides a different picture.
We are fed up because of lack of basic services in the School, says a parent wishing not to be named fearing reprisal. He continued and said that had these key facilities available there would have been a visible change in the school.
The group of parents, told how the school administration have short-changed their children, they cite numerous examples of neglect.
They said that they cannot dare a teacher in the school to answer for poor performance of their child. The school totally lacks an accountability system where career of a teacher is not determined on the basis of performance of students, they alleged.
“The school principal, do not maintain proper working hours; he come and go, often leaving the pupils unsupervised,” he alleged further.
“All of these things are factors which led to the unimpressive performance,” opined they.
Experts believe that absence of adequate facilities like toilets, fencing, health care and drinking water in the schools impair growth and development of children, limits school attendance and negatively affects students ability to concentrate and learn.
When contacted Principal Sainik School Mansbal, Ajaz Ahmad Kakroo said that some due grievances of students have already been addressed by the school administration. However, he asked parents and students to bring all their grievances into his notice for due redressal.
The principal adding said that personally he was satisfied for providing comparatively best facilities to students of the school.
