ANANTNAG: Thousands of patients visiting MCCH Hospital Anantnag for better treatment fear contracting new diseases as garbage within the premises has piled up in tonnes including medical waste.
In absence of an efficient disposal mechanism, the situation is posing a grave danger to the patients visiting the hospitals as well as nearby residents.
Patients visiting not only from the district alone but from Banihal, Kulgam, Qazigund and Shopian have expressed their displeasure and are frightened to stay to get treated.
The hospital also lacks certain basic facilities, the locals said adding that heaps of garbage could be seen lying inside the hospital premises for several weeks. The garbage emanates foul smell making the pedestrian movement difficult, the attendants of a patient told Kashmir observer.
Meanwhile, patients attendants are seen easing out near the Super Specialty block, dogs and rats rummaging the garbage. Though the hospital buildings are being kept clean, there is no arrangement to clear the bins in absence of municipal staff. Nothing good about the infrastructure for patients could be said, Javaid Ahmed Mir, a resident of Pulwama district, said. Two patients are made to occupy a single bed and add to it the callous attitude of the nursing staff who prefer to sleep rather than attending them during the night.
Many attendants told Kashmir observer that they are forced to sleep in the hospital corridors as the stench emanating from garbage heaps is pretty nauseating.
Attempts to contact the Medical Superintendent who had placed hi cell phone on switch off mode, did not materialize.
