Srinagar- In what can only be described as official apathy, water seeping into the house from an unidentified source has put an eight member family at the Ali Kadal area of the old city in trouble.
The family members have requested the authorities to discover the source of the water leaking, claiming that the problem is becoming worse with each passing day.
“”We repeatedly approached the higher authorities, pleading with them to save our house from collapsing. They dispatched the team as well, but nothing much was done to allay the fears,” Zahoor Ahmad Ashai, the house owner, told Kashmir Observer.
He said that while the water works department’s field workers had excavated the affected area, they were unable to locate the cause of the seepage.
“I am now pleading with the authorities to show compassion for our family and find out the underlying cause of the issue at the earliest to alleviate our concerns,” he added.
The executive engineer in question could not be contacted for the official version despite numerous attempts; nonetheless, a top official promised that the department will look into the issue.
“Meeting the family’s concerns will undoubtedly be addressed; field workers have already been instructed to report to the location,” the official told Kashmir Observer.
