Srinagar: Valley-based Pandits on Tuesday staged a protest against state and central government for ignoring their plight and non-fulfillment of their long-pending demands.
The members of Pandit community who didnt left valley after armed struggle began in the region assembled at Press Colony under the banner of Hindu Welfare Society Kashmir and resorted to sloganeering against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed and BJP.
Talking to media persons, the protesters slammed both centre and state government and said that their long pending and genuine demands have not been met since years. They said that after the situation took ugly turn in 90s, they instead of leaving valley preferred to live here along with our brethren.
However, we moved from villages to towns and city and settled in rented accommodations. Though we faced lot of hardships but we continued, they said, adding: however it is ironical that the government completely forgot us and we were left unattended.
According reports, the protesters said that the migrants Pandits are getting benefits, packages and other perks from government but they are even craving for a residential quarter. All we want from the government is residential quarters for 51 families and employment package, they demanded. The Pandit community also demanded flood relief from the government and minority status.
The Pandits on the occasion hailed Kashmiri Muslims for their support. (GNS)
