Pattan: A youth was released by police on Monday after people led by separatist leader Nayeem Ahmed Khan blocked the highway and staged a peaceful sit-in out side police station Pattan.
Reports said that on 18 August, Special Operation Group (SOG) had picked up a youth Reyaz Ahmed Bhat during a nocturnal raid from his Wailo Pattan residence. The family members and people led by Nayeem Khan blocked Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road outside police station Pattan demanding immediate release of the arrested youth. Eyewitnesses told CNS that vehicular movement came to a stand-still after the protesters did not allow any vehicle to pass through the road.
A police party led by SDPO Pattan arrived on spot and assured the release of the youth without any delay. Protest sit-in came to an end after the police released the arrested youth. It was all due to efforts put by Nayeem Sahab and the personal intervention of SDPO Pattan, said a protester.
When contacted an SOG officer told CNS that Reyaz was picked up for questioning in connection with the attacks on mobile towers in Sopore and Pattan towns. After questioning he was released and handed over to his family members, he said. (CNS)
