Pak should not violate ceasefire: Omar

Srinagar – Asking Pakistan to stop violations of border ceasefire, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Thursday said Indian army too have guns and can retaliate to escalate the situation.

Pakistan never had good intentions. Pakistani troops have always violated the border ceasefire, which came into effect in November 2003, Omar told reporters on sidelines of special award ceremony of 18th annual convocation of Kashmir University, here.

He urged the Pakistan army not to violate the ceasefire agreement. They should follow the ceasefire agreement in letter and spirit. In case of ceasefire violations, innocent people become the main target. Three innocent persons were killed in Pakistani troops unprovoked firing in Uri sector yesterday.

Omar warned Pakistani troops not to forget that Indian Army too have guns. They should not take us for granted. We do have guns and mortars and have the power to hit back but our retaliation can escalate the situation. If we also start firing, where will this stop?

He said the intention of people across the LoC do not seem to be good. “When the ceasefire was going good, what is the need for violating it? Is it an attempt to increase infiltration or is part of attempts to internationalise the Kashmir issue as was done recently?” he asked.

Three persons including a girl were killed in a village in Uri sector yesterday, when a shell fired by Pakistani troops landed on a residential house.

A senior army official had said that Pakistani troops had resorted to unprovoked firing and shelling in Uri sector.
