Family accuses police of ‘misbehaviour’ with womenfolk

‘We request DGP to save us from the wrath of police’

SRINAGAR: A family from Gulbagh Parimpora in the outskirts of Srinagar city Thursday alleged that on the behest an ‘influential and wealthy’ trader, some police officers have been harassing them and to appease their ‘master’ the policemen frequently raid their house and misbehave with the female folks inside the house.

The family members of a government employee Muhammad Sikandar Ganaie, a resident of Gulbagh Parimpora along with an ailing and fainted woman arrived in Press Enclave Srinagar and accused police station Parimpora of harassment. “We have a property dispute with our relative,” they said. “He is using some policemen to harass us.”

On 13 August, a police party from Parimpora Police Station, they said, raided their house. “The in-charge police officer not only abused the females present in the house but also thrashed our father without any reason,” Amina Banoo told CNS.

She said that on Thursday the same police officer arrived with a police party and dragged their ailing father from his house. “The police officer resorted to abusive language and hit us with lathi’s when we tried to resist,” she said. “They also got our brother BIlal Ahmad summoned after rushing to Polytechnique College Srinagar where he is working as an employee.”

“If the FIR is registered against my father, why’s my brother being harassed,” asked Amina. “We fail to understand what we have done and for what reasons police have registered a case against us.”

 “Please save us from the wrath of that police officer. Please ask the DGP, IGP and SSP to investigate the matter themselves,” said Shameema Banoo who was lying half conscious in a three-wheeler at the Press Enclave.

Police have refuted the allegations.
