SRINAGAR: Lt Gen Subrata Saha, Chinar Corps Commander at a ceremony held at Ziran Army Camp Wednesday presented the Late Major Purshottum trophy to Army Goodwill School, Wuzur, which was adjudged the best amongst 30 goodwill school the army is running in the State.
Remembering the heroics of the slain army commander, Major Pramod Purushottam, a former Defence PRO, who laid his life for the sake of three Kashmiri photojournalists, S Tariq of ANI, Habib Ullah Naqash of The Asian Age and Faiyaz Ahmad of NDTV, Saha said the slain commander had built a formidable connection with the journalistic fraternity of Kashmir.
“Had it not been for Major Purushottam who told us to get into the toilet, we would have been dead,” the photojournalists had told reporters after militants struck the fortified camp in November, 1999.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Surbata Saha thanked Mrs Purushottam for her fortitude and saluted the martyred officer.
Lt Gen Saha while complimenting the winner of the trophy, exhorted all school faculty to continue in their quest for providing quality education and opportunities to the children of Kashmir who had talent in abundance and reiterated Armys resolve in contributing ever so willingly and meaningfully towards this endeavour.
