JAMMU- Commissioner Secretary Tourism and Culture Shailendra Kumar accompanied by Director Tourism Jammu R. K. Varma, Deputy Director Tourism (M&W) Sidharath Zutshi, and other officers took extensive on spot review of ongoing developmental projects in Jammu here today.
While reviewing the development of River Tawi Front at Jammu, Director Tourism apprised that the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India had sanctioned this project during 2011-12 at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.99 crores. Under the project, a park is being developed for the entertainment of children and leisure of tourists. The main components of the park are toy train and children entertainment equipments, kiosks, pathways, sitting benches, view points, public convenience and ornamental lights. The River Tawi Front once completed shall be an added attraction to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Pilgrims. The project is aimed at providing recreational facilities to the tourists which combined with other tourist attractions in Jammu city will go a long way in diversifying the tourism profile.
At Jia Potha, Akhnoor, Tourist Reception Centre at an estimated cost of Rs. 4.43 crores has been sanctioned by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The main components of the projects are 6 VIP rooms with attachment bathrooms, one dormitory with intake capacity of around 50 persons with attached bathrooms, Restaurant and Kitchen.
The Tourism Reception Centre will go a long way in showcasing the unique cultural heritage of Akhnoor town and its adjoining region. The TRC once completed will give a fillip to Chenab river front which includes historic Jia Pota Ghat where Maharaja Gulab Singh was anointed as the Raja of Jammu. The river front has ancient Akhnoor Fort in the background which also has the remains of Harappan Civilization. The TRC is also expected to cater to foreign as well as domestic tourists visiting the famous archaeological site of Buddhist monastery of Ambaran dating back to Kushana period and religious tourist destination at Sumah already under development developed by the department. The TRC is expected to function as a gateway to the scenic mughal road upto Poonch and Kashmir Valley.
