Srinagar- A residential quarter was damaged in a massive blaze that broke out at Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Hostel at Maulana Azad Road in Srinagar this morning, officials said.
Property worth millions including furniture, bedding, clothing and other household items, was damaged by the fire, which appeared to be caused by a gas leak, they said.
The fire, which broke out on the first floor of the two-story building around 9 in the morning, also caused damage to a chinar tree and a nearby wooden structure.
An adequate number of firefighters and fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse off the flames as soon as the Fire and Emergency Services Department received the information about the blaze at MLA Hostel.
Confirming the incident, Assistant Director Fire and Emergency Service, Mir Aqib Hussain told Kashmir Observer that prima facie cause of fire appeared to be gas leakage which led to the blaze in the residential quarter at MLA Hostel.
Mir said that a team of firefighters was immediately dispatched to the spot to douse off the flames and that no death or injury was reported in the incident.
“The fire that broke out on the first floor of the wood-framed residential quarter comprising seven rooms was quickly contained. It appears that a gas leak is what started the fire,” he added.
