I wanted to raise the concern of street dog menace with the Srinagar Municipal Corporation via this letter in your esteemed daily.
There is no lane in the Srinagar city that is devoid of dogs and in the past few months they have multiplied manifold. While I personally am a dog lover, yet the threat that they pose and the disturbance they create are cannot be dismissed under the carpet of love for dogs.
The dogs pose serious threat to people who have to leave for work early morning or who go for early morning walks/jog or return late nights from work. While stepping into an unknown lane during these hours is dangerous, what is equally dangerous is to enter your own lane! There have been many instances of dog bites or dog chase reported and yet haven’t seen any effort by Srinagar Municipality to curb the population of street dogs.
I personally have never been bitten by a dog because I make it a point to carry something in my hand to scare them off, however have been chased and barked at many a times leaving a permanent scar in my memory and indication of lanes to avoid at particular times of the day.
It is rather sad if citizens have to stay as per the whims and fancies of street Dogs. Hope SMC hears this concern and takes appropriate actio
Thanking you,
Yours Sincerely,
