Rs 116.73 cr allocated under Pulwama district plan for current fiscal
PULWAMA, AUGUST 03: Minister for Horticulture, Hajj and Auqaf, Mr Abdul Rehman Veeri today reviewed the progress of development works at the follow-up review meeting of the District Development Board (DDB) Pulwama.
The Horticulture Minister, who is also the chairman of DDB Pulwama reviewed the sector-wise physical and financial achievements registered in the district under district plan. He also reviewed the action taken by the concerned departments on the implementation of the decisions taken in the DDB meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed last month.
The Minister for Finance, Dr Haseeb Drabu, Legislators, Mr Mohammad Khalil Bandh, Mir Zahoor Ahmad and Mr Mushtaq Ahmad Shah also participated in the meeting.
The meeting was informed that in district Pulwama Rs 116.73 crore are being utilized on development of public infrastructure in various sectors under the district plan during current financial year. Against this 75% allocation amounting to over Rs 87 crore has been released by the government so far to achieve the developmental targets fixed for the current fiscal in the district.
Mr Veeri directed the officers to strictly implement all the decisions taken in the DDB meeting to ensure better results under different state and centrally sponsored programmes. He further directed the officers to submit the status report of the works listed by the local legislators. He warned the officers against any laxity in this regard and said that fulfilling public aspirations was the priority of the Government.
The Minister while expressing dismay over the deficient replies from officers said that neither subletting of duties nor laxity on part of any officer would be tolerated. He asked them to put in extra efforts for judicious and effective utilization of funds besides removing bottlenecks hindering developmental works.
Reviewing the progress under various projects, the Minister directed the officers to ensure expeditious execution of development works to extend the desired benefits to the people. He also asked for keeping a strict check over quality of works as, according to him, the effort should be to create sustainable assets catering to the area-specific developmental needs. He stressed upon the officers and officials to remain present in their jurisdictions and come up to the expectations of the general masses.
The Chairman stressed upon the concerned officers to achieve optimum results for development of core sectors in the district. He underscored the need for laying focused attention on improvement of road connectivity, drinking water, power supply, education and healthcare facilities equally across the district.
The Minister asked the officers to perform their duties with dedication, so that the funds approved for the current fiscal are utilized in full and development scenario of the district is improved. He impressed upon them to take on board the public representatives while formulating any developmental project of public utility, so that the demands of people of all the areas are accommodated equitably.
Responding to the demands raised by legislators about their respective Constituencies, the Minister directed the concerned officers to take appropriate action for redressing their grievances. He also assured the legislators that the decisions taken in the DDB meetings would be implemented in letter and spirit.
Speaking on the occasion, the Finance Minister termed road connectivity as the lifeline for states progress and prosperity and said the Governments prime focus is to expand a viable road network in every nook and corner of the State. He also called for keeping strict check over quality of works besides ensuring judicious use of funds as the effort should be to create sustainable assets catering to area specific developmental needs.
Dr Drabu asked the officers to put in their sincere efforts to implement the DDB decisions in letter and spirit to meet the aspirations of the people. He said Government was keen to extend every basic facility to the people of each district and bring these at par with twin capital cities. He said massive developmental activities have been launched across the State to make provisions for safe drinking water, regular power supply, road connectivity, healthcare, education, irrigation and other facilities to the people.
Calling for concerted efforts for making J&K a prosperous State, Drabu asked the concerned for full utilization of funds provided by the Centre for developmental purposes under several flagship programmes. He also asked them to use local resources for the welfare of the people of the State.
Dr. Drabu, who is also public representative of Rajpora Constituency, raised several developmental issues in the meeting.
District Development Commissioner Pulwama gave a power point presentation depicting the physical and financial achievements registered in the district under different sectors so far during current financial year.
Among others, Heads of various departments, district and sectoral officers of the district attended the meeting.
