Srinagar, Oct 16: Different political parties across the state have lambasted the state government for its decision to postpone the Block Development Council (BDC) elections even after issuing notifications for the same.
Accusing National Conference of mismanaging the Panchayati Raj empowerment, main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party said that the National Conference has always worked for weakening the states institutions of democracy.
They have always violated democracy and state institutions. Some time back they said incorporating 73rd amendment in the state would violate the article 370. They should explain their conduct, said PDP spokesperson Nayeem Akhter, adding NC has lost all credibility among the people of the state.
Akhtar Said the National Conference has surrendered before the Congress party.
He said the proposal to incorporate 73rd was brought by his party during SK Sinhas stint as governor, however, he had rejected the proposal.
Nayeem said that the decision is a cause for humiliation to the government which has made panchayat members feel insecure. They created an atmosphere of chaos and insecurity by mismanaging the whole process of Panchayati Raj.
He said the National Conference is habitual of going to any extent for staying in power.
First they issued notification and now cancelled the same after not even allowed to be raised in the assembly, he added.
Hakim Yasin
Former Minister and Chairman of Peoples Democratic Front (PDP) called the state cabinets decision as desecration of the states constitutions and clear disregard for the state assembly.
This has been happening to J&K for long time now. The state government has been violating the state constitution on the directions of Delhi bosses, Yasin said adding This clearly signifies that the democratic institutions are not strong and there is lack of coordination.
M Y Tarigami
Reacting to the developments, CPI (M) state secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said the state government lacks cohesiveness
I had brought a bill to make PRIs independent but at that time it was opposed. There is clear lack of consensus and consultations. Democratic Institutions need to strengthened, , however, unfortunately they are getting weakened by the day, he said adding he was astonished to learn about the deferment of elections for BDCs after issuing notification. He said the coalition government should have the foresight to take decision after proper consultations
BJP
The Bhartiya Janta Party has called the bringing of the ordinance by the state government as a byepass of the state assembly.
This is unconstitutional and illegal. It is beyond my understanding as to how they could postpone elections after issuing notification. This is sheer violation of the constitution, said BJPs Chaman Lal Khajuria.
Engineer Rashid
Reacting to the decision of state govt. to postpone Block Development Council (BDC) elections MLA Langate Er Rashid has termed the decision as complete surrender by National Conference before Congress.
In a press statement MLA Langate said that decision taken by the government has proved yet again that who so ever rules Jammu & Kashmir is a puppet in the hands of New Delhi and cannot move even an inch without the approval and consent of New Delhi.
He said that if govt. had to postpone the elections under pressure from congress It should have made the surrender in the assembly and not in the corridors of civil secretariat by acting on the dictation received from congress central leadership.
MLA alleged that the decision has proved that National Conference can go to any extent to ensure that it enjoys power.
