Another fleet of 300 buses to be added soon
SRINAGAR: Minister for Transport, Abdul Ghani Kohli today asked the Jammu & Kashmir State Road Corporation (JKSRTC) authorities to prepare a perspective plan for optimal management and utilization of prime assets of corporation to enhance revenue generating of the corporation. He called for comprehensive proposal for commercial exploitation of all potential sources of revenue to make the corporation a profitable enterprise.
Mr. Kohli issued these direction in a meeting convened to review the present status of JKSRTC assets in and outside the state and to work out modalities for commercially harnessing the potential of these assets.
Detailed discussions were held regarding the assets of corporation in and outside the state.
The Minister directed the concerned for proper inventrisation of corporations assets including land title in consultation with the concerned Deputy Commissioners.
Reviewing the working of corporation, the Minister said that concerted efforts and multi channel approach is required for modernization and up gradation of the corporation. He exhorted upon the authorities to put in their best efforts in removing the bottlenecks coming in the way of growth and progress of the corporation.
Our vision and commitment for the corporations progress needs a series of innovative measures for rejuvenating the JKSRTC which will restore peoples faith in its capacity and make it to deliver with transparency and efficiency, the Minister asserted.
The Minister said that for strengthening the network of corporation about 300 new buses would be added for the convenience of the public. He further said that two new driving institutes and vehicle testing centres would be set up at Srinagar and Jammu soon.
Regarding the modernization of existing workshops, Mr. Kohli said that these workshops need to be upgraded with latest technology.
Secretary, Transport Department, Baseer Khan, Transport Commissioner and MD JKSRTC Parvez Khateeb besides other senior officers of the corporation attended the meeting.
