Srinagar: A training workshop on basic demography techniques started at the University of Kashmir on Monday.
The two-week workshopfirst of its kind in North Indiawill provide training in demographic techniques to officials of Directorate of Census Operations of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. More than 40 officials from these states are participating in the programme organized by KUs Department of Economics in collaboration with Office of the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India (ORGI).
Prof Dost Mohammad, former Dean of KUs Faculty of Social Sciences presided over the inaugural session. He highlighted the importance of demographic studies and the need of conducting such training programmes.
Dr D K Dey Additional Director ORGI, New Delhiwho was present on the occasiondelineated aims and objectives of the workshop.
Prof Effat Yasmin, Head of KUs Economics Department, welcomed the participants and C S Sapru presented vote of thanks. The session was moderated by Javaid Iqbal Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, KU.
