Srinagar- Police on Wednesday arrested three people for their alleged involvement in selling fake gold biscuits to buyers at exorbitant rates and deceiving them.
The arrests were made a day after Police Station Khansahib received information from reliable sources that a group of individuals are involved in illicit trade of counterfeit gold biscuits, a police spokesperson said.
Acting swiftly, he said, a suspected vehicle (JK04F-5047) with 3 people on board was intercepted near Gogjipathri crossing in the Khansahib area.
During search, he said, 239 counterfeit gold biscuits were recovered from their possession. During questioning, they were unable to substantiate the authenticity of the items and were arrested subsequently.
Police identified the accused as Fayaz Ahmad Dar of Kunzar, Farooq Ahmad Dar and Shabir Ahmad Dar, both residents of Arizal Khansahib.
“Accordingly, a case vide FIR No.163/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Khansahib and investigation has been initiated,” the spokesperson said.
He said that preliminary investigations have suggested that these persons were allegedly selling these fake gold biscuits to buyers at exorbitant rates and deceiving them.
