Srinagar, July 16: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today expressed serious concern over negative reporting by some elements in media which has adversely affected public psyche.
President DAK Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement said that lies are being peddled out in the name of reporting by vested interests which has led to mistrust between doctors and patients.
The irresponsible reporting has damaged doctor-patient relationship which has been and remains keystone to patient care.
The unfair reporting and publishing prejudiced assumptions is responsible for loss of faith of people in health institutions.
It is shocking that some reporters in media have been assigned the job to generate false perceptions to shadow the truth and mislead people.
These reporters attribute their false and frivolous information to their anonymous sources creating confusion within the medical fraternity.
Recently, reports published by a selected media outlet about GB Pant hospital created panic among public in which inaccurate and false information was disseminated.
Also, an opinion is being generated by such vested interests to allow private practice of doctors, which has eaten away our tertiary care hospitals.
Such unethical reporting has created hostile environment and has broken age old bond between doctors and patients.
Now every doctor is being portrayed as a villain and every patient a litigant.
Journalism is about ethics of reporting and reporting truth.
People get their views from the newspapers. They just do not know the truth.
They look at journalists as reporters and upholders of truth.
Media are agents of change and have to be responsible and side with the society for larger interests of public rather than their bosses.
