SRINAGAR: Defence Ministry has written to the State government asking it to consider allotting land to the retired soldiers and families of those soldiers who have died while serving in Kashmir.
Responding to a Special Mention raised in Rajya Sabha by BJP, MP Tarun Vijay that soldiers, who have served in Kashmir valley be given land to settle there, Defence Minister Manohar Parikar has forwarded plea to the state govt in Srinagar for appropriate action, BJP MP told Kashmir Observer.
Vijay had raised the demand to give a piece of land or a well-built apartment on a 99 year lease in any city or area of the choice of soldiers who have served in Kashmir valley or to the next kith and kin of those soldiers who have laid their lives for defending motherland in Kashmir.
This was an unprecedented demand raised in the Parliament and had sparked heated discussion.
The Defence Minister, responding to the Special Mention raised in Rajya Sabha , sent a reply today stating that allotment of land /apartment in Kashmir valley to soldiers who have served a minimum of three years in the valley, is a State subject to be dealt with by Govt. of J & K as per their policy/rules. The matter has been forwarded to the State Govt. for appropriate action, Vijay said.
BJP MP thanked the Defence Minister for forwarding this matter to J & K Govt.
He hopes that those soldiers who shed their blood for the motherland will be appropriately honoured in Kashmir Valley.
