DUBAI – The text of a nuclear deal reached between Iran and world powers should be carefully scrutinized and legal procedures taken so the other side does not breach it, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in his first public statements on the accord.
The cautious comments by Syed Khamenei were in contrast to praise lavished on the accord by President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif since it was struck on Tuesday.
Here is the full text of the letter.
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate the Most Merciful
Dear Mr. President,
With greetings and gratitude for your great efforts, first I would like to extend my intimate gratitude to constant and tireless efforts of the nuclear negotiations team and pray for Divine blessings for them. Further, bringing negotiations to a conclusion was a milestone; the prepared text, however, needs careful scrutiny and must be directed into the defined legal process, and in case of approval, be concerned about possible violation of commitments by the other parties and close paths to it. You are well aware that some of the six states participating in negotiations are not trustworthy at all.
I expect our dear nation to maintain unity and dignity so that national interests can be achieved in a peaceful and wisely atmosphere.

In a letter to supreme leader sent on Tuesday evening, Rouhani, who was elected in 2013 on a pledge to secure a lifting of sanctions, was again full of praise.
“UNPRECEDENTED ACHIEVEMENT”
He said, according to a text of the letter: “This deal is an unprecedented achievement in the history of international affairs as it annuls all the threatening U.N. Security Council resolutions and opens gates for cooperation with Iran even in nuclear energy.
“The deal is a big lesson to the region that problems can be solved with negotiations and true participation of people rather than intervention, massacre and terrorism,” Rouhani said.
Zarif and Ali Akbar Salehi, head of Iran’s nuclear organization will go to the conservative-dominated parliament on July 21 to brief lawmakers, IRNA reported.
