Life & Times
I WILL succeed not immediately but eventually, I remind myself these lines once in a while just to be sure that the spirit does not die down within me. There have been umpteen chances when we make our parents cry for petty reasons. Like the first injury we suffered, the flu that infected us, the scary results and even scarier lifestyle!! The instances are too many to be jotted down
There are only few instances where we get a chance to make our parents happy and proud!! The reason for very few chances are the lack of dedication we encounter with. And if we succeed in making parents happy, no happiness on this earth can match that happiness, at least not for me! I count myself very lucky for getting this chance recently in an award function.
On 12 January my college celebrated National Youth day with great zeal and zest and I got a chance to witness the event along with my family. The chief guest of the function was Dr C.S Talwar (IAS) secretary Indian Red Cross Society, Chandigarh. Besides there were also some other dignitaries. The function was given a start by the introductory speech by Mr Talwar, who is one of the skilled orators I have seen so far! It was followed by series of speeches by other dignitaries. After this, the institutional merit holders were given souvenirs by the management of the college. Luckily, I was one of them. My parents waited eagerly to see their daughter getting this award. what mattered to me was their their presence. My name was announced and I came on stage. what followed next will be remembered for a lifetime. My chairman introduced me to Dr Talwar as” heera” and” hero” of college. It felt like music to my ears. I was elated on such recognition. My chairman told me to call my father on stage, I called him received the award right next to him. This was the first award in my lifetime that I got with my parents around me. We posed for some photographs and exchanged wishes. When I came down, I saw the moistened eyes of my mother, reciting inaudible prayers ,who was about to burst in tears of happiness! She; planted a kiss on my forehead and blessed me. It was soothing and too beautiful a feeling to be expressed.
With too much to achieve and too much to explore , this was a true achievement for me!! When we came out of the auditorium I was reminded by my father:
but I have promises to keep
and miles to go before I sleep!!
