BEIRUT: Millions of Muslims around the world are set to hold rallies for freedom of Al-Aqsa Mosque and in support of the Palestinian people on the International Quds Day on Friday.
In Iran massive rallies are planned and government has declared it a national holiday.
In Britain Stop The War Coalition has called for a big Al Quds Day Demonstration in London. “As usual, this will be a major national event with thousands of people coming from all over the country to show their solidarity with the people of Palestine and oppressed people everywhere”, a statement by the British Quds Committe said.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has also called for mass rallies to renew allegiance to the cause of Palestine.
Rallies are also planned in occupied territories.
In August 1979, the late founder of the Islamic Republic in Iran Imam Ruhollah Khomeini declared the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramzan as Quds Day, calling on Muslims to mark the annual occasion by holding street rallies.
Losing his hope in Arab leaders, the Imam Khomeini called upon the Muslim Ummah to wake up and take control of their destiny. “They shall not leave it to their treacherous leaders, nor shall they let their enemies divide them”, he said in his first Quds day speech.
