Srinagar: Government forces on Wednesday evening launched a cordon-and-search operation at Imamsahab area of Shopian in south Kashmir.
Quoting official sources, the newsgathering agency GNS reported that armys 62 RR and SOG cordoned off the Barbugh village in Imamsahab area following the specific information about the presence of some militants.
As such the joint team of forces laid the cordon in the village, militants opened heavy fire upon them and reportedly managed to escape from the spot, they said.
In the initial gunfire, a soldier Ramesh Kumar is said to have received bullet injuries, they said.
When reports last came in, the cordon-and-search operation was continuing in the area.
