Srinagar- Police on Monday claimed to have busted a notorious burglary gang by arresting four of its members and recovering a large quantity of stolen property from their possession.
In a statement issued to media, a police spokesperson said that on October 21, a written complaint was received by Police Station Khansahib from Aijaz Ahmad Ganie claiming that during intervening night of October 19/20 some thieves barged into his house and stolen copper utensils, high-end clothing, artificial jewellery and gold items, collectively valued lakhs of rupees.
Accordingly, he said, a case FIR number 148/2023 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Khansahib and investigation was set into motion.
During the course of investigation, the spokesperson said, some suspects were called for questioning. Besides, with the help of technical & human resources, investigating team zeroed in on one suspect identified as Farooq Ahmad Ganie, @Dil Jalay of Kachpuran.
“During questioning, officers learnt about his involvement in the commission of crime and accordingly got arrested. On his disclosure stolen items including copper utensils, clothing, artificial jewellery and gold articles were recovered,” he said.
During further questioning, the spokesperson said, Ganie disclosed the names of his accomplices-Asif Rashid Mir, also known as Ubaid, and Maqsood Ahmad Gojri.
“Subsequently, both the accused persons were called for questioning during which they admitted their involvement in multiple theft cases. On their disclosure, stolen property including laptops, desktops, LED screens, gas cylinders, livestock (sheep), copper utensils, inverters, batteries, generator, water motor and pipes, collectively valued at approximately 4-5 lakhs were recovered,” he said.
Moreover, the spokesperson said, one more suspected Showkat Ahmad Dar of Rawalpora Watrihail was also arrested in connection with his involvement as receiver of the stolen property.
“These arrests with subsequent recoveries have resolved 03 cases under investigation at Police Station Khansahib viz 148/2023, 129/2023 and 99/2023. Further investigation is going on and more arrests & recoveries are expected,” he added.
