SRINAGAR: The forecast for fresh rainfall has relieved people in Kashmir where the mercury has been soaring for past few days. The rains are likely to break the prevailing hot weather conditions over the Jammu and Kashmir that will give people the much-needed reprieve in the holy month of Ramadan, said Metrological Department (MeT).
A combination of monsoon and Western disturbance is likely to result in rains that will be taking place over the Kashmir region for the next three days intermittently.
From 7th to 9th July, we are expecting light to moderate rainfall in Kashmir region while heavy rain fall will lash parts of Jammu, Sonam Lotus, Director MeT has said.
He said that parts of valley may witness light showers on Monday evening.
Lotus also assured people that there was no need to panic. A recent spell of rainfall had resulted into sudden surge in river water level leading Irrigation and Flood Control to flag a flood advisory for a third time in year. Rainfall is common in this season. People should not panic but they must stay alert, he said.
Temperatures have shot up over the past few days in parts of Kashmir where people observing Ramadan complained about intense heat conditions.
