Hurriyat factions, JKLF Separatists aghast over arrest spree across Valley

Srinagar:  At least 50 young persons, mostly from Srinagar, have reportedly been detained by police in connection with various charges of “troublemaking”, sources disclosed Monday. The police, sources said, is tracking over hundred boys who they suspect of “disturbing peace”.

The hunt is believed to ensure a peaceful Eid ul Fitr, the Muslim festival that is celebrated at the end of month long fast. “We shall not spare anybody who is bent to disturb peace. No troublemaker will be allowed to roam free. But we shall ensure that those will mild involvement are counseled at local level,” a top Police official said.

Meanwhile the separatist groups have sharply reacted to the arrest spree, calling for global attention.

Hurriyat Conference (M) has strongly denounced the arrest of around 18 youths in old city during the nocturnal and pre-dawn raids conducted by the police.

The spokesman in a statement expressed concern over the issue and said that it was highly unwarranted and shameless that government forces were raiding the houses of youth during Pre-dawn (Sehri) hours in this holy month of Ramadan, causing harassment in the residents.

The spokesman said the parents of youth were worried since after the arrest of their wards, they were being locked up at unknown places.

 He said the parents were being kept completely in dark regarding the location of their sons by the concerned police authorities for reasons known to them, adding, the police was violating the basic human and legal codes while doing such a draconian act.

The spokesman said during raids on houses of the youth, the police often resort to ransacking, beating of residents, harassing women folk, adding, such aggressive action was against all civil and democratic norms.

Meanwhile, expressing concern over the safety of the three labourers: Mohammad Shafi Goursi, Javaid Ahmad Kalash and Mohammad Irfan Kalash of Sangarwani Pulwama who were arrested by the army, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) Monday said that these three citizens belong to very poor families and were “arrested by the army some five days ago from their homes and since then their whereabouts are not known to anybody nor are their families allowed to meet them”.

Hurriyat (G) statement also said that it takes strong notice of the custodial torture of another youth Zahoor Ahmad Dar from Takya Sadarkote Sumbal at the hands of the army who was released half dead and condemned it in strong words.

“The army has once again become pro-active like they were doing in 90s and during this holy month of Ramazan they have started a process of harassment and arrests in the villages and far-flung areas of the Kashmir,” the statement alleged. It further claimed,  “according to the reports coming from various areas, the Indian army is conducting crackdowns in those areas and is parading the local people there and during this whole process, a very insulting and abusive treatment is meted out with the people. The three labourers of Sangarwani Pulwama were without any justification arrested and then disappeared in custody. Many days have passed but their families are not informed about their location and their condition. According to the local people the all three persons are common citizens and they work very hard to earn for their families. The attitude of army with their families has created concerns about the safety of their lives.”

The Hurriyat amalgam appealed the Amnesty International and other human rights organization to take serious notice of the arrest and disappear of these three citizens of Pulwama and use their influence in their release.

JKLF chairperson Muhammad Yaseen Malik has also condemned the use of pellet guns and other lethal weapons used in Kashmir against repeated objections and reports from Amnesty International and other international institutions on the have proved futile “as India and its force are continuously using same weapons and tactics to suppress peaceful struggle”.

“International community should shun using Lip services and do something practical to safeguard human rights in Kashmir Malik said while reacting upon recent spree of arrests, use of pallet gun and other oppressive measures in Kashmir.

He said, “recently police and forces have increasingly used lethal pellet guns against peaceful protesters and have injured many youth critically.”

The statement said that Malik recently he visited many such injured youth in hospitals and witnessed their plight. “Many of them have lost their eye sight and it seems that forces only target the upper body parts to provide maximum damage to these innocent youth.”

“Nowhere in the world are these type of lethal weapons used against peaceful protesters but in Kashmir using these kind of lethal war weapons against peaceful protests has become an order of the day,” he said. “Recently Amnesty Internationalcriticized the use of these lethal weapons such as pellet guns in Kashmir but it has not made any impression on Indian government or it puppets in Kashmir who are continuously using pellet guns, nocturnal raids, arrests and other oppressive measures to suppress the peaceful struggle; in this holy month of Ramazan nocturnal raids, arresting youth and torturing and abusing common people has become the order of the day. Hundreds of youth are being put behind the bars. In fact present rulers of Jammu Kashmir have beaten the previous records of oppression and suppression. These rulers used to make tall claims of Goli Nahin Boli and battle of ideas but today they have turned more tyrannical than Hitler’s,” he added.
