Will offer Friday prayers in Anantnag
Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani who remains under house imprisonment today said he will test the recent statement of DG police that Geelani Sahab is a free man and he can go anywhere to offer prayers.
Hurriyat (G) has formulated a program for Geelani to offer Friday congregational prayers of 3rd July at Islamabad (Anantnag) and a public address there after the prayers.
A Hurriyat spokesman reminded that Omer Abdullah government in November 2013 ended the house detention process of Geelani Sahab after which Hurriyat Conference organized five mega public gatherings at Sopore, Shopian, Kupwara, Pulwama and Kulgam which witnessed the huge participation of the general public however the Hurriyat Conference had planned to hold similar programs in Islamabad, Tral, Palhallan and Banihal but the then government, without citing any reason, again imprisoned Geelani Sahab in his house and from then this process is continuing.
While terming the statement of police chief as ridicules and confusing in which he had said that Geelani Sahab is a free man unless he disturbs the law and order situation, the spokesman said that the attitude of the police is always responsible for the disturbance of law and order who at first doesnt allow the peaceful gatherings and programs and then use excessive and brutal force without any justification against the common people.
The spokesman also rejected the hypothesis of the DG police that wherever Geelani Sahab visits, stone pelting starts there. He said that not a single incident of stone pelting happened in the mega public gatherings of Geelani Sahab in November 2013 in which thousands of people participated and it was because the police did not try to stop the peaceful marches.
The spokesman said that if Geelani Sahab is allowed to take part in the proposed Islamabad program of 13 July Friday, no stone pelting incident will occur there and it will be a disciplined and peaceful public gathering like the earlier programs but if police continued to detain Geelani Sahab at his house on the said day and did not allow him to offer his Friday prayers at Islamabad (Anantnag), then the statement of the DG police that Geelani Sahab is a free man and can offer prayers anywhere will prove to be a blatant lie.
The spokesman said that if Geelani Sahab is set free, then after the proposed public gathering in Islamabad, similar programs will be organized in Palhallan, Banihal and Srinagar and the Srinagar program will be a million march in which the people from entire state will participate.
