DAK observes Doctors Day as Black Day
Srinagar: Scores of doctors who had come from across the Valley Wednesday staged protest demonstrations at Press Enclave here to observe Doctors Day as Black Day.
The protesting medicos were holding black flags and placards which read: Make ordinance for protection of doctors, revoke three tier roster system, treat us as humans and there is nothing to celebrate on Doctors day.
Dr Iram, one of the protestors said that on the eve of Doctors Day they protest as a mark of resentment against the callous attitude of government towards the demands of medical community.
Dr G M Mir told CNS that they are bruised and wounded by the callous attitude of the government towards medical fraternity since ages.
Dr Mir Mushtaq said that medicos had been demanding for an ordinance for making manhandling a medico during his duty hours as cognizable offence.
In order to camouflage their wrongdoings and inefficiency, the State is projecting doctors as villains with the result the age-old bond between doctors and patients are shattered which has led to regular events of manhandling of health personnel. Moreover the authorities are busy in humiliating and harassing the medical staff and are making their fun for mere dress code and name plates which is mere a stunt to glamorise a person and keeping the real issues at bay, said Dr Mir Mushtaq.
Seconding him, Dr Nida said that such autocratic behaviour is worth condemnable and despicable. This has brought down the morale of doctors considerably. Medicos have been stressing the Government to bring an ordinance for making manhandling a cognizable offence and stresses the stakeholders to maintain the honour and dignity of doctors, she added.
Amid anti Lal Singh slogans, the protesting doctors said that the Health Minister has been crossing all the limits during his inspection of different hospitals. Protesting medicos also said that there is dearth of staff and equipments in various hospitals. Mere raising of hollow buildings wont suffice anything. The health department has immense dearth of staff and lack of necessary equipments including the basic ones. We have always raised voice for zoning of tertiary care services wherein all the three zones of Kashmir should have advance tertiary set up care so that common masses be benefited at large, said Dr Qudsia. Moreover we have been stressing the authorities for upgradation of District Hospitals to primary tertiary care and establishments of Trauma Hospitals at vital places across valley so that critical patients receive the treatment in shortest stipulated time, she added.
Dr Zahid Safdar said that the department lacks critical care ambulances along with vital equipments like CT scan, Digital X rays, Ventilators and other machinery which is shameful in a way that we loss precious lives due to lack of such important logistics.
Their other demands include massive upliftment in terms of manpower and equipments, respectful job profile and perks, comprehensive health policy, regularization of contractual doctors in one go, regularization of NRHM doctors.
