Srinagar- Four members of a family, including a couple and their daughter were killed on Friday in a horrific road accident along the Srinagar- Jammu highway in Qazigund area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
The bone-chilling accident caught on camera in the early hours on Friday, went viral on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter leaving netizens in shock and despair.
A Maruti Eeco van (JK06B 0901) carrying seven members of a family, was on its way to Srinagar from Doda when a speedy truck hit it near Levidora crossing in Qazigund area on Friday morning, reports said. The van driver was taking a turn at the crossing when the truck hit the extreme left portion of the vehicle pushing it several feet away.
All the seven inmates suffered serious injuries in the road accident and were removed to the Qazigund emergency hospital for treatment. However, the driver of the ill-fated vehicle succumbed to his injuries.
Other six injured members of the family, reports said, were referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for advanced treatment. However, four among those with critical injuries were referred to SK institute of medical sciences for specialized treatment.
Three among those later succumbed to injuries, talking the death toll in highway accident to four.
The deceased have been identified as Muhammad Nawaz Bhat, wife Mubeena and daughter Aisha. The fourth victim has been identified as Bhat’s nephew Maroof Ahmed.
The condition of another family member Ghulam Qadir Bhat is stated to be critical, while two others identified as Mehvish and her brother Mumtaz Ahmed are out of danger.
Meanwhile, police have seized the truck and arrested its driver.
A case FIR No 206 has also been registered under relevant sections of law in this regard.
