Srinagar: Doctors Association Kashmir Monday said that Kashmir valley continues to function without an organized pediatric care in spite of promises and cosmetic datelines given by successive governments.
President DAK, Dr G M Mir said that even a decade after the temporary relocation to GB Pant Hospital, the promise of establishing Advanced Pediatric Hospital in Kashmir remains unfulfilled. He expressed dismay over the incompetence of the successive regimes in getting Kashmir a fully established centrally based pediatric hospital along with efficient pediatric care in peripheries. It is irrational and unprofessional on the part of Govt. that they are keeping their eyes closed when all the stakeholders are pitching for establishing Advance Pediatric Hospitals in North and South regions also. The dilly dallying tactics, lobbyism and lack of sound planning has led to the deferral of establishing of the pediatric hospital in Srinagar which is quite deplorable, DAK said.
It added that lack of tertiary care pediatric facilities in far flung areas is the main cause of infant fatalities. Government should establish tertiary care pediatric hospitals in north and south Kashmir to save precious human lives and lessen the burden on GB Pant hospital, the only tertiary care pediatric centre in valley as of now.
