Srinagar- Taking serious note of travelling without tickets in trains by locals and personnel of police department, the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Kashmir zone, Vijay Kumar has instructed all district police chiefs to take serious action against any police personnel who is found involved in ticketless travel.
The instructions were issued after the Chief Area Manager, Northern Railways brought the issue into the notice of ADGP Kashmir, urging him to issue directions to the personnel of police department to desist from indulging in any such activity, which incurs losses to the railway exchequer.
“The chief area manager northern railways, Srinagar has brought into the notice of this office that a disconcerting trend of ticketless travel has been on the rise within the train services operating in Kashmir division and the matter is of grave concern, as it not only undermines the integrity of the public transport system but also incurs substantial loss to the railway exchequer,” ADGP said in a communiqué, copy of which is possession of Kashmir Observer.
The provincial police chief has said the behavior of such police personnel has not been non-compliant with the establishment norms, but also disrespect for legal requisites that govern the public transport system.
Such actions set an undesirable precedent to follow the suit, thereby perpetuating the problems of ticketless travel, reads the communiqué.
The ADGP, as per the communiqué has asked all district police chiefs of the Kashmir division to issue an advisory in their respective districts/ units with the instructions to travel with valid passes and tickets.
