SRINAGAR: Only security forces and NCC Cadets will join Yoga Day tomorrow in the valley, as common people are on holy fast in the ongoing month of Ramzan.
Defence ministry spokesman Lt Colonel N N Joshi said the International Day of Yoga will we celebrated at Bakshi Stadium by NCC Group, Srinagar at 0700 hrs.
The Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir and other dignitaries would grace the occasion. A CRPF spokesman said the Yoga Day will be held at Subsidiary Training Centre (STC) Humhama in the central Kashmir district of Badgam.Similar functions will be held at other parts of the valley by security forces.
Though Yoga generated a debate among the scholars of different faiths, Kashmir’s besides Muslim ulema remained indifferent, educational institutions, including those run by missionary organisations, have also not made any arrangement for celebrating the day.
Being a Sunday, the government and other private institutions will remain closed.
Though some people said there was nothing wrong in performing Yoga, majority of people said offering five times Namaz during the day and additional Taraweeh prayers were enough for mental peace and physical fitness.
There was also no official announcement about organising Yoga celebration at the state-level in Jammu and Kashmir, where Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is a coalition partner in the government with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).However, Jammu will witness large participation.
