ANANTNAG: An Islamic State flag was spotted yet again in Jammu and Kashmir as Muslims’ holy month of Ramadan, or Ramzan, started in the country on Friday.
The trademark black Isis flag was reportedly waved in Anantnag district. It was the second such incident reported this month and an indicator of the growing influence of the terror group in the country.
The incident comes a day after the media reported an Intelligence Bureau alert, warning police forces across the country of a possible terror strike by the Isis in India, especially targeting Turkish citizens and embassies.
Earlier this month, a group of youths had carried flags resembling that of the Isis from Jamia Masjid towards Nowhatta in Srinagar.
Isis flags had first appeared in Kashmir in October last year and the then chief minister Omar Abdullah had reportedly downplayed the incident.
Army officials have, however, warned that such incidents are of serious security concern, stating that waving of Isis flags in the country needs the ‘highest attention of security agencies’.
