Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani along with his associates was today detained by the police outside his Hyderpora residence.
He defied his house arrest this morning and tried to move towards Sopore to lead the protest march against the string of target killings .
But as soon as he came out of his residence, Geelani was stopped by a huge contingent of police who blocked the road with their vehicles and didnt allow him to move forward.
Later the police took him and his other four party men, including Syed Imtiyaz Hyder, Zahoor-ul-Haq Geelani, Rameez Raja and Umar Adil Dar to the Humhama police station and detained them there, a spokesman of Hurriyat (G) said in a statement.
While being detained Geelani told the waiting media persons that his was the very disciplined and peaceful protest march towards Sopore where he wanted to express sympathy and solidarity with the families of slain people.
It took about 15 days to Mufti Mohammad Sayed to react the innocent killings in Sopore which shows the seriousness of a chief minister of a state and he then enacted a drama in the unified command meeting, Geelani added.
